On Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025, Hopkins came home triumphant having sent two teams to the Connecticut Ethics Bowl, held at the University of Connecticut in Storrs. Nearly 2 dozen high schools from across the state, both public and private, met to discuss a set of ethical conundrums created by the Parr Center for Ethics at the University of North Carolina. Hopkins defeated Fairfield Prep in the final round, and will now go on to face the winner of the Rhode Island competition in a few weeks. The winner of that competition will go on to the National High School Ethics Bowl to be held in Chapel Hill, NC in April.
Hopkins’ winning team consisted of club leaders Logan Matthews ‘25 and Sarah Galvani-Townsend ‘25, as well as Ripley Chance ‘26, Vidwan Aryan ‘27, and Henry Foushee ‘25.
The championship questions were: “My Pal, HAL: Is There Anything Intrinsically Wrong with Forming Deep Social Bonds with an AI Model?” and “Live to Work or Work to Live: To What Extent Should Someone’s Meaning in Life Be Connected with Their Job? Why or Why Not?”
