Hopkins was delighted to welcome special guest speaker Saara Pritchard to speak at assembly on Friday, May 15. Ms. Pritchard is currently Associate Vice President, Specialist, and Head of Afternoon Sale for Post-War and Contemporary Art at Christie's in New York, one of the world’s largest and oldest fine auction houses. She spoke to the community about the high-end world of art auctions, highlighting recent sales managed by Christie’s including last week’s record breaking sale of Pablo Picasso’s Les femmes d’Alger (Version ‘O’) for $179.3 million. Saara’s focus, however, is identifying, developing and promoting new artists.

Following her talk, Saara fielded questions from students ranging from how the value of a piece is determined, to whether such rare and coveted artworks should be kept in private collections or on public view in museums.

Ms. Pritchard earned her B.A. with a double major in Art History and Psychology form Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., and followed that with an M.A. in History of Art and Connoisseurship in Modern and Contemporary Art from Christie’s Education in London. Many thanks to the Davis family for inviting Saara to speak at Hopkins.
