Boys Tennis Defeats Hard Working Kingswood Squad 6--1
On April 21, Hopkins faced a Kingswood--Oxford team that had defeated them 6--1 a year ago but which had lost its top 3 players to graduation. Determined to take advantage of the experience differential, Hopkins began the match by sweeping the 3 doubles matches and posting impressive 6--1, 6--0 victories at the #1 and #2 singles positions. The Kingswood team and their coach are to be given credit, however, for not giving up and for continuing to display a solid work ethic throughout the match. At #3 to #6 singles, each Kingswood player performed significantly better in the second set and forced their Hopkins opponents to dig deep. Hopkins eventually emerged victorious at #3, 6--0, 7--5, and at #4, 6--0, 6--4, while being extended to 3 sets at the # 5 position. Kingswood won its sole point at #6 singles by a 6--4, 6--2 margin. Hopkins could learn a good lesson from the strong work ethic of the Kingswood team.
