Team News

On Saturday, April 17, the Hopkins boys tennis team faced a Brunswick team that had defeated it 7--0 a year ago without the loss of a single set. This year the two teams battled for some 4 hours before the score finally ended in a 4--3 Brunswick victory. Brunswick began the match by winning the #1 singles and #1 doubles matches in straight sets. Phil Bernasek, a freshman playing #3 singles, finally got Hopkins on the scoreboard with a hard earned 7--5, 7--5 victory. Our #2 doubles team of Dan Spinelli and David Zackheim won the first set against their Brunswick opponents but were unable to sustain their early lead and lost in 3 sets. Our #3 doubles team of Nate Rosenblatt and Nick Perkins soundly defeated their Brunswick opponents 6--1, 6--3, to make the match score 3--2 in Brunswick's favor. This left tri-captains Adam Sauerteig and Lenny Kolstad still on the court in their respective singles matches--both matches split sets. Adam was able to prevail in 3 fiercely contested sets but Lenny was not.

There will not be much rest for the Hopkins team as we face a Rye CDS team on Monday that had defeated us 5--2 last year and a Kingswood--Oxford team on Wednesday that had defeated us 6--1 last year. Our team, though is looking forward to these challenges.
