The seventh grade travelled to New York City to visit the American Museum of Natural History on Tuesday, April 30. The students and their teachers and advisers were thrilled to travel on a double decker bus!

Science Department Chair, Jen Stauffer said of the trip, "The purpose of the trip is to give our 7th graders more hands on experience with and exposure to Earth Science–the focus of the Science 7 curriculum. We will be visiting the Hall of Planet Earth and the Minerals, Gems, and Meteorites collections. Our students will see some of the world's best examples of hydrothermal vents, volcanic bombs, and stromatolites.

In preparation for the trip, Hopkins 7th graders have been learning about tectonic features–more specifically, volcanoes–via group projects. Each group researched a specific type of volcano and created a poster and 3D cross-sectional model based on their research. Students presented their findings and showed off their creations in a science class 'poster session.' "
