We are grateful that Hoosac made the long haul to our campus from their home in Upstate New York for our closest match of the season. Weather cooperated (FINALLY) and we had mild temperatures, a light breeze rather than serious gusts, and a little something that we from the west know as "the sun" even put in an appearance here on the east coast.

Hoosac's doubles teams are fierce. Their D1 surprised Max and Lucio with the velocity of their returns, often leading our players to muff volleys driven directly at them. Bryan and Jacob were unable to hold a tentative lead in theirs and momentum shifted in Hoosac's favor on Line 2. Lucas and Karun succeeded in staving off a Hoosac charge at D3 to end up on top.

So we began the singles with a one-point deficit to a team who possessed formidable talent. Bryan's opponent remained consistent and outdueled him today, and Lucio's rival didn't flinch when Lucio played his power game. Things looked bleak for a moment there, but then Karun and Jacob quietly came through with victories to sustain the overall contest. Both Lines 5 and 6 were sturdy support beams for the Hilltoppers today.

So Hop needed to win the remaining two matches to get the "W". As Karun and Jacob reported their scores, Max was up a set and locked in a very close match with a consistent all-courter with tennis smarts, and Alex had just eked out the first set in his favor to another strong player. Both matches included some exciting points with winners, amazing saves, solid volleys and daring passing shots. Max finally prevailed at Line 1, but Alex was still at 1-1 in the second set. Somehow, Alex was able to find the energy in his reserve tanks to out-rally his skilled opponent.

Thanks again, Hoosac, for coming to play us, and we do look forward to hosting you again next year. Thanks, parents, for the pizza for everyone. What a fun way to cap off the week and head into Easter weekend. We look forward to seeing you tennis fans next Wednesday, when we host another tough team, Hotchkiss school.

YEAH HOP!
