Under rainy conditions, the Hopkins Hilltoppers traveled south to Stamford, CT to face off against the King School Vikings in their Homecoming and Senior Day game. The Vikings started with energy and used their home field momentum to best the Hilltoppers 35-0.
This was a tough matchup for the Hilltoppers from the get go, as King was able to move the ball down the field behind their stout offensive line. After nearly forcing a 4th down stop on a fake King punt, they eventually would find the endzone through the air to make it 7-0 near the end of the first quarter. Later in the second quarter, King returned an interception to the Hilltoppers 1 yard line before punching it in to make it a two score lead (14-0). Their offense would find the endzone one more time before half on a 60 yard catch and run to set the deficit at 21 heading into halftime. The second half continued in a similar fashion, with Hopkins struggling to find their footing as King continued to drive the ball down the field. King capitalized with two more scores of their own, both on the ground, to make it a 35-0 final score.
This was not the outcome the Hilltoppers were hoping for, but they will have time to rest and prepare for their matchup in 2 weeks versus the Montclair Kimberley Academy Cougars (currently 5-0). The Hilltoppers will travel down to Montclair, NJ on Thursday, October 10th for a 3:30pm matchup, and we hope to see our friends and families there to support!
