Gail Grimmett speaks on Sustainability in the Air Line Industry

Did you know that recycling a single aluminum can would save enough energy to power a TV for 3 hours?

This was one fact shared with the Hopkins community on Friday, April 26 by Gail Grimmett, Senior Vice President of Sustainability Performance at Delta Air Lines. The Sustainability Committee invited Grimmett to mark the end of Earth Week. She spoke to the School about measures the airline industry is taking to address issues of climate change and sustainability, including innovations in airplane designs, fuel efficiency, and integration of sustainable aviation fuel. She also shared the challenges faced by the industry when dealing with differing international regulations on waste management and recycling. She emphasized the need for “progress over perfection” as industries and countries move toward the goal of climate neutrality by 2050. After Grimmett's compelling speech, students asked her questions pertaining to climate change and how to be a more climate conscious citizen.
