Celebrating Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month

In honor of Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month (Sept. 15- Oct. 15), The Office of Equity and Community and the Black Latinx Student Union hosted professional dance performers, Hunter Houde and Judith Marie, for an all-school assembly on Monday, Oct. 23. This is the third year Hunter has joined the Hopkins community and the visit has become one of the most popular of the school year. As Mia Callot '26 stated in her introduction, "Music [and Dance] has always played an integral role within Latino culture. With genres ranging from folk music to modern pop, there is something for everyone to enjoy."

In addition to their electric assembly performance, Hunter and Judith shared the opportunity to get involved with Latin Social Dancing in several workshops. They emphasized that dance can fill a need for increased connection and community, and is a great way to combat residual feelings of isolation since the pandemic. Students and a number of classes participated in the workshops following the assembly. Some seniors remembered Hunter's visit in 2019 when they were in 8th grade and were overjoyed to be able to dance again and learn more.

We are so grateful that this dancing duo could join us again this year and we are so looking forward to next year!
