Hopkins takes 1st Place at the CT State Science Olympiad

For the 8th year since 2009, Hopkins Science Olympiad took home the first place trophy in the CT State Science Olympiad competition at the University of Connecticut on Saturday April 1.

The competition consists of 23 different events and, each year, a portion of the events are rotated to reflect the ever-changing nature of genetics, earth science, chemistry, anatomy, physics, geology, mechanical engineering and technology. By combining events from all disciplines, Science Olympiad encourages a wide cross-section of students to get involved. Emphasis is placed on active, hands-on group participation.

Hopkins sent two teams to the competition, also earning third place honors. The competition was fierce as the team beat out South Windsor, for the fifth year (in the past six), for the top spot. Overall, Hopkins earned 19 medals. Medals were awarded to the top four competitors (pair from each team) in each event. Medal winners are listed below. A team of fifteen students and four alternates will be heading to the Wright State University in Dayton, OH to compete in the Science Olympiad National Tournament in May. Wish them luck!
