The Hopkins Girls Soccer program includes three competitive levels: a JuniorSchool team for 7th and 8th graders, and Junior Varsity and Varsity squads for girls in grades 9-12. The Varsity Squad competes in the Western Branch of the New England Prep School Women Soccer Association (WWNEPSSA). The WWNEPSSA league involves approximately forty schools, and Hopkins Varsity girls compete in the “B” Division for medium-sized schools. The League’s schedule is very competitive; it includes many regionally ranked as well as local teams. The emphasis is on team play while the program looks for players who can adapt to fast-paced and challenging games and who exhibit individual personality and creative style.
Head coach Alistair Lonsdale joined the Varsity Girls Soccer program in 2023. Coach Lonsdale previously coached at Greenwich Academy for 15 years, where he helped lead his team to eight FAA Championships and six showings in the New England Class A Tournament, and was voted CT Girls Prep School Coach of the Year for 2015. In addition to coaching at Hopkins, Coach Lonsdale is currently the director of the youth Development Academy for CFC, coaches in the ECNL, the owner/director of Coerver Coaching Connecticut, and the Director of Coaching for the Old Greenwich Riverside Girls Thunder Soccer Program. He holds a United Soccer Coaches Premier Diploma. Prior to coaching, Lonsdale played for the Weymouth FC, Dorchester Town FC, Brokenhurst FC, and Swanage FC.
Hopkins is a private middle school and high school for grades 7-12. Located on a campus overlooking New Haven, CT, the School takes pride in its intellectually curious students as well as its dedicated faculty and staff.
