Girls’ Cross Country welcomes runners of all abilities to join a team dedicated to improving, running fast and achieving at high levels.
In addition to its regular league meets, the team participates in several invitationals, such as the Canterbury Invitational, the Wickham Invitational (run on the same course as the public school State meets), and the Collegiate Invitational at Van Cortland Park in the Bronx.
The future promises to be great for many reasons. First, cross country welcomes all girls, of all abilities, who want to work hard and be part of a team. No one is ever cut from this sport. Rather, the team offers a place where all runners can see and enjoy the fruits of their efforts very directly, as improvement is directly linked to effort. Second, the team’s success is a result of the friendships that are made and developed. Our winning ways stem from our commitment to one another.
Head Coach Miguel Pizarro joined the Cross Country coaching staff in 2003. He became the Head Coach for Boys Cross Country in 2007, and became the Head Coach of both the Boys and Girls Teams in 2012. In that time, his teams have earned numerous FAA and NEPSTA titles. He was named the New Haven Register Girls Cross Country Coach of the Year for the 2018 season. Additionally, Coach Pizarro has been teaching Latin in the Hopkins Classics department since 1999.
Hopkins is a private middle school and high school for grades 7-12. Located on a campus overlooking New Haven, CT, the School takes pride in its intellectually curious students as well as its dedicated faculty and staff.
