Hopkins girls XC goes 9-0 at first FAA meet
On Wednesday, September 18, the Fairchester Athletic Association (FAA) held its first league meet of the season. The meet was held at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport, CT. All the teams in the league participated for dually scored races. The course was a carefully wheeled 5000m.

Girls: Greens Farms Academy, Greenwich Academy, Greenwich Country Day, Holy Child, King, Hopkins, Masters, Rye Country Day, Sacred Heart (Greenwich), St Luke's
The boys raced first. Hopkins was missing its injured #1 runner, senior captain Lucas Llovera. Senior Will Davitt was the first Hilltopper across the line, in 18:30 for 13th place. Senior captain Logan Matthews was 15th. Senior captain Lucas Scheps was 18th. Sophomore Daven Kaphar was 19th. Sophomore Julian Peccia rounded out the scoring in 21st place. Hopkins was beaten by Brunswick, GCDS, and Masters, and defeated the other schools in the league, coming away with a record for the day of 4-3.
Everyone ran hard, from the front of the pack to the back of the field. The senior-heavy scorers have some sophomores not too far behind them, and as hard as everyone raced, the boys' team is hungry to improve greatly in future races. One particularly notable personal achievement came from senior Azikiwe Osakwe who set a 7-minute personal record!

In the girls' race, Hopkins was led by freshman Anoa Dawson, who finished 2nd overall in a huge PR of 21:05. Senior captain Saki Tomita was 6th in 21:43. Senior Layla Kenkare was 7th. Junior Vivian Huang was 10th, and 9th-grader Bea Colón-Wang rounded out the scoring in 14th.
This was a particularly exciting and encouraging day for the girls' whose strength as a pack was very clear, with a large and enthusiastic group of fairly inexperienced and quickly improving ninth and tenth graders already contributing greatly to team success. As with the boys, all the runners ran hard and had reason to be proud of their performances.
With that performance, the girls' team came away with a record of 9-0 on the day.
