Varsity Cross Country Celebrates FAA Victories

In the Fairchester League Championship race, the Varsity Girls took 1st and the Varsity Boys took 3rd.
The Fairchester Athletic Association (FAA) held its championship race on Monday, October 28th, at Waveny Park in New Canaan, CT (the same course that FCIAC uses). The course was dry and very runnable, and 5k.

The boys ran first. Hopkins had been chasing Masters and GCDS all season (with Brunswick considerably far ahead). True to form Brunswick won the race with a low score of 33. GCDS was 2nd with 54, and Hopkins took the third place with 60 points, comfortably ahead of Masters with 100 (Masters had beaten Hopkins dually all three times this season).

Senior captain Lucas Llovera was first for Hopkins, in 4th place overall, earning first-team FAA honors in a time of 16:39, a solid PR.
Senior captain Logan Matthews was the next Hopkins runner, in 12th overall, earning second-team FAA honors in a time of 17:54.

The boys generally ran fantastic races, and even though they came short against their goal of being in front of GCDS, they are very happy with their performances, and excited for their NEPSTA championship race at the Brooks School in North Andover, MA on Saturday, Nov 9th.

The boys finished their FAA season with a record of 12-9, and 3rd place in the championship race. Their overall dual meet record was 13-9.

The girls went into their championship with a league record of 27-0, and 28-0 overall, and the winners of the Canterbury Invitational in September.

The race was tight, with perennial rivals Greenwich Academy looking to close all possible gaps. The Hopkins girls weren't feeling their best, but still were able to squeeze out a 2-point victory.

In 5th overall, freshman Anoa Dawson ran 20:12 for first team FAA honors.
Senior Layla Kenkare ran a PR of 20:30 for 8th place and first-team FAA honors.
