Hopkins Singers Tour Vienna and Prague

The Hopkins Choir experienced a triumphant European tour of Vienna and Prague in June. A delegation of twenty-eight students, four chaperones, and one tour guide experienced the beauty and history of the cities.

Departing June 10, the group jumped into performances straight away, performing a mass and a post-mass concert at the incredible St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna, perhaps the most historically significant cathedral in the city.

Their second concert was at the Schubertkirche (so named because Schubert was baptized there and composed several early compositions for the church). Along with a Vienna city tour and plenty of time to explore museums and art, they left Vienna tired but happy.

Next the group had a wonderful stop in Czesky Krumlov, a medieval town near the Czech Border. Students enjoyed exploring the castle and winding streets of this beautifully preserved town.

Their third concert was an incredible experience. After traveling to Jindrichuv Hradec, Choir Director Erika Schroth shared that they sang in one of the most beautiful acoustic spaces she had ever encountered.
The groups final concert was in Old Prague, where they joined with an excellent youth choir, Svitani. In each concert, Hopkins students had the opportunity to sing with, speak with, and learn from local singers. It was a life-changing trip!

The students also had the pleasure of being joined by some of their parents for concerts in Vienna and Prague. "We are so grateful to Hopkins for supporting this trip," shared Schroth. "The students grew so much musically and forged unforgettable bonds with each other and with the cities we visited."
