Stacey Abrams Inspires Students Across New Haven

On Monday, October 7 in the Walter Camp Athletic Center, political leader, business owner, and bestselling author Stacey Abrams visited us on the Hill for a special conversation about civic engagement, civil discourse, and voting rights. In attendance were the entire Hopkins community, students and faculty from ten public high schools in New Haven, and nonprofit organizations. The conversation was moderated by Emily Bazelon P’18, a Senior Research Scholar in Law and Truman Capote Fellow at Yale Law School, and a staff writer for The New York Times Magazine. The discussion was followed by questions from a small group of students representing four New Haven schools, including Asher J. ‘25 of Hopkins. 

Abrams' presentation was part of the School’s 2024-2025 Speakers Series which focuses on the theme of democracy. The ongoing series features a range of knowledgeable speakers who are offering insights on democracy both in the U.S. and abroad. Through this program, Hopkins aims to deepen students’ knowledge of civics — the mechanics of democracy – and engage in civil discourse. The goal is to educate students on matters of citizenship and prepare them to be critical thinkers.
