Remembering Former Drama Teacher Bob DuCharme

Bob DuCharme, a beloved member of the Hopkins community who taught on the Hill from 1973 to 1985 passed away on January 7, 2024. DuCharme’s journey with Hopkins began in 1971, when he was hired as an outside contractor to direct the musical Oliver!.

After directing another play and five musicals at the School over the next two years, he accepted a full-time position on the faculty. DuCharme went on to direct many more Hopkins productions, and in addition to teaching Drama, taught English, History, Public Speaking, and Advertising, guiding and mentoring hundreds of students until his retirement in 1985.

According to his family, in his Drama classes, DuCharme found joy in teaching both seasoned actors as well as students with no prior experience, sparking in them a love of theater and watching their talents blossom. After retiring, DuCharme and his wife, Linda, moved to Vermont, where he continued to direct plays and musicals and taught public speaking at the nearby community college.

Bob was predeceased by Linda, who passed away in 2020, and is survived by his children, Bob Jr. ’78, Ann ’79, Julie ’81, and Peter ’85.
