  • Baseball Camp

    Open to students entering grades 3–8.
    Camp meets July 10–14 from 8:00–11:00 am.
     
    Learn the game of baseball with Varsity coach Rocco DeMaio and members of the
    Hopkins team on the Varsity field. The camp will combine fundamental work, skill development and live game situations in a fun and nurturing environment. Open to players at all levels.

  • Basketball Camp

    Open to students entering grades 3–8.
    Camp meets June 26–30 from 8:00–11:00 am.

    The camp will be under the direction of the Hopkins Boys Varsity Basketball Coach, Rocco DeMaio, who brings 20 years of coaching experience and passion for the game. This camp will emphasize the fun of playing and learning the game of basketball. Focus each week will be on the fundamentals in drills, stations and mini-games. Personal attention will be given to players of all sizes, ages, and ability. Our mission is to provide a positive experience where kids can develop their game and gain confidence in a fun environment.

  • Fencing Camp

    For beginner fencers in grades 5–8.
    Camp meets July 10–14 from 8:00–11:00 am.
    No prior experience necessary!
     
    Hopkins Head Varsity Coach Emilie Waters will teach fencers proper form and technique: basic fencing skills, including footwork and bladework; fencing with electrical equipment; fencing rules and sportsmanship. All equipment will be provided. Fencers should wear athletic clothes, sneakers, and bring a change of shirt. Please bring a water bottle and a light snack.

  • Field Hockey Camp

    Open to students entering grades 6–12. 
    Camp meets July 10–14 from 9:00am–12:00 noon.

    Hopkins Field Hockey is offering a camp for all athletes ages 12-18 this summer.  The camp is engineered to introduce new players to the game as well as provide an opportunity for the experienced player to grow their game.  The camp will focus on a variety of skills including elimination skills, shooting, and defensive circle play.  The camp welcomes all position players as well as experience levels.

    Please note that the camp will cap at around 50 individual signs ups and will be canceled if not enough interest is received.

  • Football Camp

    Open to students entering grades 3–8.
    Camp meets June 26–30 from 8:00–11:00 am.
     
    Hopkins Football will run a skills based football camp for area youth football players by Varsity Head Coach Timothy Phipps. Athletes entering grades 3-8 will be taught the fundamentals of football by Hopkins Hilltopper coaches. This camp is non-contact and will expose campers to proper techniques that will ensure the athlete a positive football playing experience. Skills such as tackling, kicking, blocking, running, and throwing will be addressed on a daily basis by an experienced coaching staff. The camp will also work to develop personal characteristics such as leadership, honesty and integrity while focusing on a “Team First” mindset.

  • Soccer Camp

    Open to girls and boys entering grades 5–8.
    Camp meets June 26–30 from 8:00–11:00 am.
     
    Hopkins is excited to offer a week-long clinic for players to hone their skills in the world’s most popular sport. Boys Varsity coach Joseph Addison (NSCAA National Diploma) will offer players a chance to improve technically and gain a better tactical understanding of the game. Focus will be on first touch, passing, dribbling, playing small-sided, and scoring lots of goals. The objective of the soccer clinic is to provide players of all abilities the chance to enjoy themselves on the field while gaining skills that will make them better players. This course is run by Head Varsity Soccer Coach Joe Addison.

  • Squash: Beginner and Intermediate, Levels I and II

    Open to students entering grades 3–12.
    Camp meets 8:00–11:00 am. (Three 1-week sessions)
     
    Forbes magazine named squash as the world’s healthiest game for its excellent physical and mental demands, low risk of injury, and lifetime availability. US Squash Level II coach, Brad Czepiel, and his staff of trained coaches and advanced players teach proper stroke mechanics, graceful court movement, and effective match strategy for new and intermediate players. Individual and group coaching, and a variety of on- and off-court activities inspire the budding squash player. A mid-practice video break allows campers a time to refresh for the final hour’s action.

  • Squash: Advanced, Level III

    Open to junior players with team or tournament experience.
    Camp meets 1:30–3:30 pm. (Three 1-week sessions)
     
    Squash Level III builds experienced players’ fundamentals to help them get even more power, finesse, and success from their game. Each week focuses on central, critical skills, though other related on- and off-court elements will be addressed. Throughout, the camp makes an asset of Hopkins’ hot courts; the pace is high, and outright winners are very difficult, a combination that acclimatizes players to the long, creative points of advanced junior squash. Camp will host between six and twelve players.

    Current assistant coach for Trinity College’s men’s team.
    Highest world ranking, 93. Jamaican and Caribbean champion 6 times. Trinity College National Champion 4 times.

    Leroy Leong: Squash Pro at the New Haven Lawn Club.
    Former Malaysian National player
    Over 10 years of coaching experience, especially with Juniors.

    Brad Czepiel: Director of Hopkins squash. High school girls coach. Level II US Squash coach. NEISA executive committee member. 

    Other coaches will be added to maintain a low player-coach ratio.

    All squash camps meet in Hopkins’ six-court Kneisel Squash Center located at the top of the quad and most easily accessed via the 94 Knollwood Drive entrance.
  • Ultimate Frisbee Camp

    Open to students entering grades 6–12.
    Camp meets June 26–30 from 8:00–11:00 am.
     
    The Ultimate Frisbee Camp will be run by Christopher Kozey, who has been playing Ultimate for 15 years.  Currently, he is a member of USA Ultimate, a former Captain for Haverford College (2005-2006), and player for Los Quijotes, Madrid (2007-2008). In this camp, we will learn the rules of Ultimate, the fundamentals of two basic throws (backhand and forehand), as well as offensive and defensive formations. The camp’s overall emphasis will be on enjoying Ultimate through development of basic skills and learning about the Spirit of the Game, the code of sportsmanship and fair play that governs Ultimate at all levels of play.

  • Kidding Around Yoga Camp

    Open to students entering grades 3-6.
    Class meets 9:30–11:30 am. (Two 1-week sessions)

    Kidding Around Yoga incorporates all the traditional aspects of yoga: Asanas, Meditation, Pranayama, Deep Relaxation, and, of course, a LOT of kidding around. It combines fun & exciting activities and games with its own Music that is simply magical! Faces light up, bodies are moving and grooving, children are singing, jumping, and striking poses!

    Instructor: Sherri Sosensky is a certified and licensed Children’s Yoga Instructor with the KAY Program. She has been practicing Yoga for over 10 years. Sherri teaches Pre-School in Hamden and can be found all over the community teaching Kids Yoga. She is teaching her students to be kind, do for others, help one another, focus and be mindful in class, home and away every day.

    Session 1: July 10–14 
    Mindfulness in the Classroom – This ‘OM’azing curriculum is designed to motivate children to be active, become mindful, and have FUN in a non-competitive environment. We will stretch, breathe, meditate and play mindful games such as: Zip,Zap,Zop, and Toe-ga Yoga. We will sing, dance, and strike poses all while learning to focus and be calm amidst the chaos.
    *Each class will include a craft component where we will create ‘breathing wands’, peace flags & calming jars for example.

    Strength & Confidence Building – Children gain balance, strength and coordination all while ‘saluting the sun’, yoga-limbo-ing and doing the ‘Hip, Hop, Yoga Bop! They will practice poses to raise their cardio-vascular levels such as: Boat pose, Crab, Downward Dog, Donkey kicks, Plank, Tree Pose, and Hero, Cobra & Warrior poses.
    *Each class will include a craft component such as; pranayama painting, kindness catchers & planting seeds of Peace.
